Opening Sonnet
Welcome, our friends, to a ballad of biking
(it's far more efficient than walking or hiking)
Where Bram and his stoker-pal Barbara Jean
Went from home to Bar Harbor and points in-between.
We took a used tandem obtained from the 'net
From Ron Crosswhite (a Montana bike touring vet
Who had left the Santana for less daunting play)
For a neighborly sum I was happy to pay.
Barjabean used the Internet, too, to avail her
of Yak, a newfangled model of trailer
that hooked on the hub of the tandem and carried
The short list of items to which we were married
For 10 days road riding, with three at the tail
Where we camped in Acadia, our Holy Grail.
A mischeivous brat of a kitten, adopted
By family Briskey, would now be co-opted
by Christine and Tirzo, while Lupa and Bello
were fed by Bram's housemate, Jennica Shapiro.
After forty or so miles of hills and green vistas
We ate at Dad's Diner, and counted our blistas.
A sprinkle of rain made us take out the poncho;
Here we are the next morn, photo'd by some camp honcho.
