Poetry on the A Train First a metaphor gets on at 14th Street, Then a meaning from Flatbush, and a couple of Rhymes All the way from Rockaway Beach, while some Beats Parade up and down the cars, tapping with sticks. Someone turns up a radio, the rhymes pretend not to hear it, And yet get so distracted that they block the meaning That has to exit at Nevins, who knocks them aside. The beats notice all this commotion, And escort all the Rhymes off the train, And the only one left is the metaphor, And he ends up falling asleep, And missing his stop entirely.
